Leroy Springs' HR Director Wins Regional Award for Leadership

FORT MILL, S.C., October 21, 2013 — Cheri Gall has been named 2013 HR Professional of the Year for her leadership as Director of Human Resources for Leroy Springs & Co., a nonprofit provider of recreational opportunities in the Carolinas.

Gall was selected as the winner for organizations with between 201 and 750 employees by the Carolinas Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, which serves southern Mecklenburg, York, Chester and Lancaster counties.

The award recognizes leaders who “build respect, credibility and strategic importance for the human resources profession within their organizations, the business community, and the communities in which they work.”

“Cheri has used her skills and experience to  guide us through  the recession and the changing landscape of health care, while also ensuring that Leroy Springs & Co. explains and delivers crucial benefits to nearly 300 employees in eight locations,” said company President Tim Patterson. “She’s a devoted and strategic leader who demonstrates her compassion and good humor every day.”

Gall’s nomination cites her pioneering of an employee wellness program, employee opinion survey, Employee Assistance Program and awards and recognition initiatives. She also serves as a mentor for colleagues and helped coordinate a field trip for abused and neglected children to experience Springs’ 2,100-acre Anne Springs Close Greenway.

“I’m surprised and flattered just to have been nominated for this award, and I feel lucky to work for a company that cares about its employees and understands they’re our greatest asset,” said Gall, a 15-year veteran. “A tone of respect is set at the top and reaches every level of our organization.”

Gall said she’s proud of the way Springs managed the recession and is focused now on helping employees negotiate the new government health insurance options. A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Gall is a Certified Professional in Human Resources, a credential that requires passage of a national exam and ongoing study of best practices to remain certified. She is also an avid hiker and biker.
