Step outside of the hustle and bustle of your daily routine and explore the natural beauty of the 2,300 acre greenway. Great expanses of oak, hickory and dogwood forests, shimmering lakes and rolling pastures that provide:
- wildlife habitat
- low impact recreation such as horseback hiking, horseback riding, and cycling
- watershed protection
- environmental and historical interpretation
- a nature center, historic cabins and a grist mill interpretive site
- a gift to the region from the eight children of Anne Springs Close and H. William Close
Opened in 1995, the eight children of H. William and Anne Springs Close dedicated the 2,300 acres of the Anne Springs Close Greenway as a tribute to their mother and her lifelong commitment to recreation and the environment. The Greenway provides for low impact recreation activities while maintaining a natural habitat for wildlife, protecting the Steele Creek watershed, and preserving several structural sites of historical interest.
The greenway includes a historic section of the legendary Nation Ford Road, part of the Philadelphia-to-Augusta Wagon Road made famous as the main emigration route of settlers in the 18th and 19th centuries.
There are also rental facilities for both formal and informal events, and recreational and educational activities that give participants a deeper appreciation for the area.
